SMPS Side X Side: A Day of Service
Tuesday, August 9, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

Each year during Build Business, SMPS works side by side with communities, organizations, and our members to benefit local charities. This year, we’re excited to work with S. Weir Mitchell Elementary School. A member of the Philadelphia Public School system, Mitchell educates approximately 700 students and is located in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing neighborhood.

Forty students from fifth, sixth, and seventh grades will join SMPS for a day of learning and laughter at the world-renowned Franklin Institute. The day will begin at 10 a.m. with a short meet-and-greet session with the kids, chaperones, and SMPS volunteers. Afterward, the groups will have free access to all of the museum’s permanent exhibits, including the planetarium, IMAX theatre, and the wildly popular The Science Behind Pixar interactive exhibit. The Honorable Jim Kenney, mayor of Philadelphia, will join us as special guest.

A full buffet lunch will be provided with a Taste of South Philly theme that includes local favorites. The event will conclude at 3 p.m. with students receiving a swag bag of STEM-related giveaways from various A/E/C firms.

If you’re arriving for Build Business a little early, please join us for this one-of-a-kind opportunity to stand Side X Side with SMPS and the Mitchell School.

Please note: Registration is required for this event. Space is limited to 40 volunteers.
